Since July 2019, Morat Swoboda Motion – the joint venture between Swoboda and the Franz Morat Group – has been producing geared drive components for electric mobility at its new plant in Nowa Ruda, Poland. The 4,500 square meter plant was officially opened on October 11 with representatives from politics and business.
E-mobility is regarded as a key technology and promising solution for sustainable mobility. In addition to electric cars, electric scooters and electric buses, electrically powered bicycles are particularly popular. In 2018 their sales in Europe exceeded the 2 million mark for the first time – in Germany alone almost one million e-bikes were sold. Whether city bikes for urban areas, mountain & trekking bikes for leisure use or cargo bikes for transport over the last mile. Further growth is expected for this segment in the coming years.
Swoboda and the Franz Morat Group recognized this trend at an early stage and with the founding of Morat Swoboda Motion dedicated themselves to the production of toothed drive components for electro-mobile applications. In 2017, the joint venture was nominated for the first major project. The ground-breaking ceremony in June 2018 marked the start of construction of the new production plant in Nowa Ruda, Lower Silesia. The first machines were delivered in November 2018 and the first sample parts left the plant in March 2019. On 1 July 2019, series production of various gears and shafts started on an area of 4,500 m².
The new plant accommodates the quality-critical manufacturing technologies of gear hobbing, vacuum hardening, centerless grinding, hard turning and gear grinding in-house. The automation concept intelligently links the processing machines with each other. The parts are stocked using push-in trolleys with identical system pallets. At the same time, numerous robots take care of the machine loading. The flexibility of the automation solution allows production to be modularly expanded. For further large-volume orders, the production area can be enlarged to around 7,500 m² by a new hall. In addition to gear components for e-bike motors, Morat Swoboda Motion’s product range also covers wheel sets for electric steering systems, rotor shafts for electric cars or planetary gears for e-scooters.
